The Clocktower
We moved here at the beginning of 2025. To get to know the area we started taking walks, often after dinner. Eventually we landed on a route we liked. We’d stray from it every now and then, but it was the go-to route whenever we wanted to walk, but didn’t want to think too hard about where we were going. Over time I found myself stopping at the same spot. At first there were no strict rules, I just took a photo of the area from that spot. As the year went by the shot developed. I used landmarks in an attempt to shoot from the same position, and guides in my camera to align the shot the same way. The landmarks are very general so I know there are days where I might be an inch or two to the left, or the camera might not be perfectly level, but I don’t mind it that way.
I take a shot every time we pass now. No matter what. Some days are better than others, but they’re all worth remembering. Some days the scene doesn’t match my mood, others match it exactly. There are a lot of grey days, days with blue sky, sometimes rain. A group of ducks often make an appearance, sometimes pigeons, if you’re lucky a heron or otter. Sometimes it’s a quick walk because it’s too cold, others get extended. But besides the company, there’s one thing that remains constant.
